Not all Chickens are equal

I found myself worrying about what to write or say next and I've concluded that that's insanely silly: (i) because no one's reading this (ii) because neither it nor I am that important. There's probably a lesson to learn here.

Meanwhile I have learned that all chickens are not the same. Following my brother-in-law's instructions to feed his chickens: (i) Say good morning, (ii) lay down food (iii) open coop. Turns out the Matilda is bold and brave, first out the coop. Maud and Fat Maggie waited till I had gone and then came down, ate a little and admired themselves in the mirror. If I had to choose I hope to be like Matilda when I grow up.

We did a lot of driving this week so we listened to a CD I burnt of me reading CS Lewis' Silver Chair. I tried to make Puddleglum (my favourite character) sound like Marvin the Paranoid Android.

A Real Connection

Had fun today playing with the new laptop and getting it to speak to the old desktop and putting on it old sermons etc. I spoke to a lovely woman at Dell called Usha on the telephone. I think she was calling from India, perhaps because my phone said International perhaps because in a quieter moment she told me how she'd been watching the cricket. I was trying to get the laptop to speak to my printer and it didn't seem to want to so with a few clicks and an okay she took over the computer. Utterly wierd - someone on the other side of the world controlling my mouse and putting different drivers on to it and so on.

If you're PC savvy then probably this makes sense to you but it felt really sureal. Just for a moment there was a real connection, we laughed and she said how she quite liked the idea of working from home and I said how its hard work to begin with but then you get the hang of it. She thought she'd find the temptation to sleep and read too much. And then problem solved and we go our disconnected ways.

Day Orf

Its a good thing i have a day off - I've sorted out the wedding finances, some funeral finances, some faculty paperwork, written three thank you cards for past speakers, bought a bar stool for the projector people (okay it was v cheap and from the dump but hey), discussed runninga Following Jesus course, received a laptop and now I need to sit down and work out how it works. That way, tomorrow, I can get back to work.

Yesterday someone stopped me in the street to talk to me about miracles, another person talked to me about the wonder of creation. Its fun being a vicar, I'm going to miss it, but its only for a little while.

Archdeacons' Room

Drove off at 8am and got back at 7pm having spent the day at Diocesan House at a Reader Selection Conference. Can't say much detail sorry. Food was very nice.
Funniest moment for me was seeing the sign on the door of the room they gave me for my interviewing: Archdeacons' Room Rev'd James .... Ministerial. Its a visual gag and doesn't read so well in text form. Its a room set aside for more than one archdeacon if you were wondering about the apostrophe. Oh yes you were.
Profoundest moment of the day was someone using the 'All scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, correcting and training in righteousness' bit as a way of saying they didn't expect the bible (the context of the converstation was to do with Genesis) to be scientific. Cutting Moses a bit of slack.

Came back home, watched first half of Avatar. It is long and grown up and still Pocahontas.
